It is on a base of American aviation in 1951 that the first go-cart appeared. With some tubes, wheels and engine of lawn-mower the teams on the ground, tinker the first go-cart. Each makes his own machine and first competitions take place soon .France discovers the go-cart in 1959. It is a real "boom" and in front of this craze, Jean Marie Balestre creates the National Grouping of Go-carting ( GNK) on February 29, 1960.In 1961 the GNK lists already more than 13000 graduates. But this new mechanical sport is going to know a fast decline until 1970. Since this date the number of graduates increases regularly, to reach in 1998 the number of 13 000 graduates A .Go-carting in France is organized around the Union of Go-carting (F.d. K.) and 17 regional leagues. There are 285 clubs (ASK: Sports association of Go-carting), 120 circuits outdoors , 100 circuits in indoor , 150 professionals and more than 300 competitions a year.It is in Le Mans that was created the first track of go-carting " the track Alain Prost, one of the most beautiful international circuits of France ".Among the builders of frames, the Italian Tecno firm is going to build a model which is going to determine the shape of all the frames for the future and the Iame company is going to make in 1959 the first true engine of go-cart " Parilla ". Iame is also the builder of Komet K55 used in promotional category in 12 countries.The go-cart is a tremendous school to make pilots of high level, as Prost, Schumacher, Truli, Verstappen, Fisichella and so many others, without forgetting regretted Ayrton Senna, twice vice - world champion of go-carting.All these pilots contributed to the realization and the success of Paris-Bercy's first Master Kart Indoor organized by Philippe Streiff.After the Bercy's first Go-cart Indoor in 1993, begins phenomenon " indoor ", that is go-carting within the reach of all, young and less young. France counts at present more than 80 circuits indoor. Since January, 2000 the FFSA took in hand the fate of the go-carting in France.
