"The GT2000 is a soapbox racer, meant to go straight down a hill fast with maximum control and braking. We achieve this by having a small turning radius and a very reliable and serviceable brake. The weight of the racer comes in well below usual weight limitations, this allows for most kids, and room to add weight if desired.
The GT2000 kit includes all the wooden parts, these parts are cut on a computerized machine, so the racer fits together like a jig saw puzzle. The plans are very detailed, so assembly should happen in a couple of nights with basic tools and a reasonable amount of carpentry experience. A hardware list is included, a good hardware store should have all the material, we include two items which may be harder to source. Wheels are not included and a very personal item, wheels, some say, win the race. The kit is set up to accept a 1/2" axle, therefore a wheel with a 1/2" bearing ID is necessary. An industrial supply place or any one that sells "Castors" will have all kinds of wheels. My opinion is that you want a hard rubber, thin wheel with a roller bearing, I don't think diameter is a big deal. Lubricate the bearing with a light oil and NOT grease! I have heard that a hospital gerny wheel is very good, I don't know from experience.
If you order plans, you will receive full size patterns of the parts that need to be cut, once the parts are cut, you will use the same set of instructions as in the kit to assemble the racer. Please be aware the racer has many curves and angles, you would want to be fairly handy with a jig saw! Also note, you will need to source out a sheet of 1/8" Birch veneer core for the skin, the chassis is made of 3/4" and 1/2" plywood, 1X2 pine is also needed.
